Sturdivant previously appeared on the FBI’s radar in 2022 when, as a minor, he came into contact with an unidentified IS member abroad and acted to carry out a hammer attack. He was not charged for that incident and instead underwent psychological treatment, according to authorities.
Friday’s announcement follows the arrest about three weeks ago of five people accused of allegedly wanting to carry out a series of “terrorist” attacks in Southern California during New Year’s celebrations.
