Donald Trump does not let up in his bid to take control of Greenland. The American president has reiterated in a letter to the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Stoere, that Denmark cannot protect the large Arctic island from the alleged Chinese and Russian threat and has warned that its obligation is no longer to “think only about peace.”
But in that same letter, revealed by journalist Nick Schifrin and to which the Reuters agency has also had access, Trump suggests that his decision to claim ownership of Greenland has been spurred by the decision of the Norwegian Institute not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize, which finally went to the Venezuelan opponent María Corina Machado.
“Dear Jonas, considering that your country has decided not to award me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped eight more wars, I no longer feel the obligation to think only about peace, although it will always be predominant, but now I can think about what is good for the United States,” reads the letter, in which Trump appears to be justifying a military invasion of the island.

“Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘property right’ anyway? There are no written documents, just that a ship docked there hundreds of years ago,” adds the Republican president.
In the short text, the American president assures that he has done more for NATO “than anyone else since its founding, and now NATO should do something for the United States.” “The world will not be safe unless we have total and complete control of Greenland,” he concludes, after reiterating in recent days that his demands are based on “national security” interests and for the development of the Golden Dome, a novel anti-aircraft defense system.
