Motion A, headed by Jose Manuel Purezaindicated this Saturday, November 29th, the name of the former deputy Isabel Pires for the position of secretary of the Bloco de Esquerda organization, within the scope of a new tripartite representation.

This name was announced by Alexandre Abreu, member of motion ‘A’, during the presentation of the guiding motions at the 14th BE National Convention, which takes place in the municipal pavilion of Casal Vistoso, in Lisbon.

The proposal of motion A, affecting the current leadership, is that of a new form of tripartite organization, which involves the figure of the coordinator – who should be José Manuel Pureza, since motion ‘A’ elected 80% of the delegates to the Convention -, a deputy in parliament – who should be Fabian Figueiredo, second name on the list for Lisbon -, and this third figure of secretary of the party organization.

Isabel Cristina Rua Pires is 34 years old and has a master’s degree in Political Science.

The bloc leader is part of several party bodies, namely the National Board and the Political Commission.

In presenting the motion, Alexandre Abreu, the blockers need “to be bolder, less reactive” and to present innovative visions and proposals “that set the political agenda instead of limiting themselves to responding” to that same agenda.

For the blocist, this is the opportunity “to recover dialogue and strengthen bridges”, considering it necessary to promote “maximum convergence” in the areas of work and in the defense of democracy.

“We need to get closer and listen with humility to those who were once close to us and who for different reasons moved away”, he defended, pointing out BE as a “driver of convergence and refusal of sectarianism”.

Abreu promised blocistas “faithful to the exploited people, intransigent in human rights, firm in the opposition, ecologists and socialists”, without “giving up anything and faithful to all struggles”.

Before the debate on the motions, there was a moment for a video paying tribute to all the blockers who died since the last convention to the sound of the song “I saw this people fight”, by Fausto Bordalo Dias, José Mário Branco and Sérgio Godinho.

The last person to appear in this video was Mariana and Joana Mortágua’s father, Camilo Mortágua, who died in November last year, showing an excerpt from a video where he says that “coherence until the end, that’s what’s hard”.
