The electricity bill for customers in the regulated market will increase, on average, 1% from January 1st, indicated this Monday, December 15th, the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE).
“In the regulated market of mainland Portugal, transitional tariffs for sales to end customers in Low Normal Voltage (BTN) show, on average, a variation of 1.0%, in 2026”you can read.
On October 15, ERSE had presented its proposal to increase the price of electricity for families in the regulated market by 1% and the proposal was subject to an opinion from the Tariff Council.
According to the energy sector regulator, the proposed increase translates into an increase of between 0.20 and 0.37 euros on the monthly bill, including fees and taxes.
From January onwards, considering a power of 3.45 kolovoltamperes (kVA) and a consumption of 1,900 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year for a couple without children, the total payable will be 36.82 euros, including fees and taxes (except DGEG fee – General Directorate of Energy and Geology).
For a couple with two children, with a power of 6.9 kVA and a consumption of 5,000 kWh/year, the bill will be 95.03 euros (with fees and taxes).
At the end of September 2025, 817,000 customers were in the regulated market.
“In the liberalized market, sales prices to end customers vary between suppliers and depend on the commercial offer contracted by the customer”recalled ERSE.
The final price of electricity in the regulated and liberalized markets (the prices of which vary between suppliers and depend on the contracted offer) include the value of network access tariffs, regulated by ERSE.
Between December of this year and January 2026, network access tariffs will vary by -2.9% in very high voltage, -0.8% in high voltage, 1.8% in medium voltage, 2.7% in special low voltage and 3.5% in normal low voltage.
Next year, consumers with a social tariff will have a 33.8% discount.
