The Attorney General’s Office announced, also this Friday, that it will not open an investigation or other investigation into Luís Marques Mendes following an anonymous complaint about contracts with a construction company due to the absence of “a fact capable of forming a crime”.
“The reception at DCIAP of an anonymous complaint, identical to the one that has been reproduced by the press, is confirmed. After analyzing the anonymous complaint and the attached documentation, it was verified that the information reported, with little detail, does not describe any concrete fact capable of forming a crime”, can be read in a response sent to Lusa by the PGR press office.
At issue are news published by the media that the PGR reportedly received anonymous complaints about contracts between presidential candidate Luís Marques Mendes and a construction company.
“As issues of a fiscal nature were mentioned in the complaint, the Tax and Customs Authority was informed”adds the same answer.
According to the PGR, “as there was no real news of a crime, the opening of an investigation was not ordered” and there was also “no basis for opening any other type of investigation procedure”.
“An anonymous complaint can only lead to the opening of an investigation if it reveals evidence of the commission of a crime or if it constitutes a crime”refers to the same answer.
An investigation by TVI and Nascer do Sol reported that Marques Mendes received five thousand euros per month from the construction company Alberto Couto Alves (ACA) for consultancy services provided for six years and one month, through two contracts: one from January 2010 with a duration of five years, and the other signed with the family company LS2MM in January 2015, which lasted 13 months.
The owner of the company ACA, when confronted with this information, initially said that he did not remember having paid five thousand euros per month to Marques Mendes during that period, but, later, he ended up confirming to TVI the existence of that contractual connection.
