At least ten people died this Tuesday when a person shot at a school in the town of Tumbler Ridge, in western Canada, according to police.
Among the deceased is the alleged shooter. Six of the dead were located inside the school while two other bodies were found in a home. Another person died while being taken to a hospital.
Authorities also said that around 25 people are being treated for injuries at the local medical center and that two others have been evacuated by helicopter with extremely serious injuries.
They also added that police officers are searching homes and properties in the town, located about 1,150 kilometers northeast of Vancouver, to verify that there are no more victims and have ruled out other suspects.
The alleged perpetrator of the massacre was found dead inside the school as a result of self-inflicted wounds..
The Canadian Mounted Police has explained in a statement to which it has had access Efe that around 1:20 p.m. local time (9:20 p.m. Spanish peninsular time) they began to receive information about the shooting at the Tumbler Ridge high school, a town in the interior of the province of British Columbia and with a population of about 2,400 people.
“As part of the initial response to the active shooting, police entered the school to locate the threat. During the search, officers located several victims. A person believed to be the shooter was also found dead with what appears to be a self-inflicted injury,” the Mounties said.
“All students and staff members remaining at the center were safely evacuated,” the statement added.
