Portuguese tennis player Tiago Pereira won this Saturday, November 29, his first doubles challenger titlealongside Bulgarian Alexader Donski, at the Maia Open, a category 100 tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour, played at the Maia Tennis Complex.
The young man from Algarve, aged 21and his partner managed to counter the favoritism of Frenchman Theo Arribage (reigning champion alongside Francisco Cabral) and Serbian Nino Serdarusic, first seeds, and won the final duel in the courts Maia’s dirt track in two setsfor the partials of 6-2 and 7-6 (7-5).
After being a finalist in Barletta, this year, and in Segovia, in 2024, Tiago Pereira achieved the first challenger trophy of his career in the last tournament of the season and playing at home.
In the singles competition, the qualifier Slovakian Andrej Martin, number 393 in the ATP rankings, defeated Frenchman Lilian Marmousez (355th ATP), also from the qualifying phase, in three matches, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-2.
Martin scored a meeting in Sunday’s final with Austrian Elmer Moller (147th ATP), pre-designated third, who eliminated Spaniard Daniel Mérida (170th ATP), with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
