Gustavo Petro denounces an alleged plan to attack the helicopter in which he was traveling with his children

“I have to confess that I come from two days not in the arms of love, but escaping from being killed“said Petro in Montería, the departmental capital, where he presides over a council of ministers focused on the floods affecting northwest Colombia.

According to Petro, after two hours of flight there were no safe conditions for the landing of the presidential helicopter in Montería, where they were waiting for him, so the device had to fly out to sea.

“I had (information that) they were going to shoot at the helicopter, with my children too. Then we took the open sea for four hours and I arrived where I didn’t have to go, but I did,” he stated.

The president did not give details of his tour, which apparently began on Gorgona Island, in the Pacific, where, according to what he said today in his X account, he was yesterday before traveling to Montería, on the Atlantic coast.

No security agency authority has reported the discovery of an alleged plan to attack the president.

Throughout his mandate, which began on August 7, 2022, the Colombian president has denounced alleged attack plans several times against him.

In September 2024, he indicated that the United States Anti-Drug Agency (DEA), through that country’s ambassador in Bogotá, alerted him of an alleged plan to assassinate him before ending that year in an attack with a truck loaded with dynamite.

Petro also indicated today that before the meeting on February 3 at the White House with the president of the United States, Donald Trumpordered to remove from service a police general who, he said, “someone gave the order” to put “psychoactive substances” in one of the official vehicles where he travels, with the aim of “destroying” the crucial meeting in Washington.

“That puts me in a situation of alarm,” added the president.
