“If he returns to the country, he will have to answer to Venezuela”

Chavista leader Delcy Rodríguez does not relax her threats against opposition leader María Corina Machado. With rhetoric reminiscent of former president Nicolás Maduro, the interim president warned the Nobel Peace Prize winner that, if she returns to her country, she will have to “respond to Venezuela.”

“As for his return to the country, he will have to answer to Venezuela. Why he asked for military intervention, why he asked for sanctions against Venezuela and why he celebrated the actions that took place at the beginning of January,” Rodríguez said in reference to the military operation that ended with the capture of Maduro, in an interview with NBC News.

When asked directly about the security guarantees for Machado, who fled the Venezuelan nation after spending months in hiding for fear of reprisals from the Government, Rodríguez said that, “as for his life,” the Chavistas do not understand “why there is so much fuss.”
