The baby taken by her mother from the Pediatrics ward at Hospital de Gaia on Wednesday, was delivered this Thursday, December 4, in the late afternoon, at the GNR dos Carvalhos Post, in Vila Nova de Gaia, a Guarda source told Lusa.

The source added that the child went to the hospital, which he did not specify, to be evaluated.

The four-month-old girl was removed by her mother from hospitalization, bypassing security measures, and an internal investigation has already been opened, a source from the Gaia/Espinho Local Health Unit (ULSGE) confirmed this Thursday.

The mother took her four-month-old daughter from the hospital, in the district of Porto, in the afternoon, “after being informed by the court, in the morning, that the child would be handed over to a foster family” during the day on Wednesday, said the same source.

The case was reported this Thursday by Jornal de Notícias (JN), which states that, immediately, the hospital reported the baby’s disappearance to the PSP and the court.

The president of the Board of Directors of the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Gaia/Espinho, Luís da Cruz Matos, said this Thursday that he was “evaluating everything that happened” in the case of a mother who removed her baby from hospitalization.

“We are going to evaluate everything, we are going to evaluate the bracelet system, we are going to evaluate how it was possible for it to have been removed and we are going to carry out as many tests as we can”Luís da Cruz Matos assured journalists.

The electronic bracelet was found intact in the trash can in the bathroom of the room where the child was hospitalized.

“We must learn from here so that this does not happen again, this cannot happen again, we will not let this happen again and, therefore, we will take all the lessons from here”he said.

Luís da Cruz Matos insisted that the hospital is evaluating everything that happened and how the mother managed to remove the baby’s bracelet.

Lusa questioned the General Inspectorate of Health Activities about opening an investigation into this case and is awaiting a response.
