Will next year’s concerts be to showcase the new album?
No, I won’t do that, I’ll do some of the album, but only five or six, seven at most. And then I like my concerts to be something that isn’t tied to anything, I have my repertoire, which is 20 years old, 21, and I like not to be tied to any record, I vary it. I don’t share my stage side between records, I haven’t done that for many years. I like to do some presentation concerts for those who really like it and want to listen, and then I go back on the road with a concert in which I don’t think about any of that, some of the albums will be there, others won’t, some of the albums present will also be there, you can only play around 20 songs in a concert or even less, so I wouldn’t make 11 just from the new album.
This year was full of concerts. Would you like to do even more in 2026?
No. I also sang in Azeitonas and with my solo concerts at the same time, I would do 90 or 100 in a year and I decided that it wasn’t the life for me. I drastically reduced it to 50 per year, which is already a lot, and now I have a ceiling of 50, so 51st is no longer marked. And I’ve always done that, 50 concerts, I’ve been doing that number of concerts consistently for many years. By 2026 I should already have about 20 or so scored, it should be the same, it should be something like 50, for me it’s healthy to do that, more than that starts to be unhealthy.
Are concerts essential to monetize an album?
Yes, the great source of income for musicians is the stage, and I am no exception to that, copyright and the stage. Copyright is a different thing from royaltiescopyright is the fact that I made the songs I make, not only for myself, but also for others, and the radio broadcasts, the concerts, all of this generates copyright. In my case, my main sources of income are the stage and copyright, but I don’t make music with that in mind.
He also made music for soap operas…
I made one specifically for a generic called Well You Want Me and it’s sung by Joana Almeirante, so yes, I did it specifically for the soap opera, because it was the generic song and they sent me the script, with the character. Furthermore, there are songs that someone releases and soap operas ask to incorporate into the soap opera and some of mine have already gone there, more recently There goes Sofia, what is in a soap opera called Heritage. But this song wasn’t made for the soap opera.
Are radio and even soap operas important for promoting music to a wider audience?
Maybe, I write my songs after there is one or another that from time to time comes on the radio, goes here, goes there, and becomes better known. But to the extent that I don’t control that part, I don’t control which songs are on the radio, I don’t control which songs are on soap operas, I focus on the songs and nothing else. Then I edit them with as much dignity as I can, and from then on it’s no longer up to me.
