Lyon has become the epicenter of an episode of extreme violence by radical groups that clashed and that ended with the death of Quentin, a 23-year-old young man.

It all arose from a conference of the MEP and pro-Palestinian activist, Rima Hassan, who was in the French city to give a conference. At the doors, people gathered in protest. Nemesis collective, known for anti-immigration and anti-Islam speeches.

According to the group itself, Quentin was part of the security team to protect the activists – mainly women – who gathered at the gates of the Institute of Political Studies (IEP) where this event took place.

Extreme violence

While the Nemesis activists carried a banner with Hassan’s face, another left-wing extremist group ‘Antifa’ broke into the area around 6:00 p.m.

From that moment on, according to local media, a strong fight with great violence between about 50 people, mostly men.

Moments after the altercation and, approximately one kilometer from the scene, the firefighters found the young man in a very serious condition.

A brutal beating that caused Quentin to end up hospitalized and in critical condition for two days until he finally died this Saturday.

Who was Quentin?

Quentin was a 23-year-old young man who studied mathematics. This student was a young man who is described as a nationalist, linked to the activism of the Némesis collective, made up mainly of women.

A defense of his values ​​and of the group that has led him to drastically lose his life after the attack by this ‘Antifa’ group.

Alice Cordier, the president of this group, assures on social networks that Quentin was part of the team in charge of the activists’ security.

However, the family of young Quentin, through a statement issued by his lawyer, They have denied that their son belonged to this security service and they assure that he was a “peaceful” person.

Furthermore, they have reported “a gratuitous lynching by several individuals.”

Although, in this painful moment, they ask for calm and moderation, and assure that they wish to “report with a clear conscience.” They assure that “it is not just an aggravated assault, but it is a murder committed by an organized group.”

In the midst of the commotion, this Sunday tribute is paid to Quentin in an event in the Place de la Sorbonne in Paris.

Political tension

The Prosecutor’s Office is now investigating Quentin’s death as a crime of aggravated homicide. Investigations have begun into charges of “aggravated fatal blows, in addition to aggravated violence”.

Meanwhile, politics does not let up and tension is growing between French parties and a great political debate has been unleashed in the country that has pitted the different parties against each other.

The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, has called for calm to all political forces: “No cause, no ideology, will ever justify murder.”

Furthermore, Macron has assured that “the purpose of institutions is to civilize debates and protect the free expression of arguments.”

He Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmaninhas linked the beating to the ultra-left and has assured several French media that Quentin “died in a cowardly manner, the images are ignoble.”

For her part, Marine Le Pen has raised her tone and asked the Executive to consider the aggressors who ended Quentin’s life as “terrorist militias.”

The Rebellious France

Despite everything, some party headquarters The Rebellious France (LFI), to which Rima Hassan belongs, have already been vandalized after this murder.

Precisely, the MEP condemned the attack and assured that none of the people who work in her party’s security are involved in this murder.

After the ‘Jeune Garde’ (Young Guard) – a group extinct in 2025 – was accused by some sectors of being behind these acts. A group linked to a deputy of France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
