Bread and pastry products are expected to suffer a “slight increase” in price next year, impacted by labor reviews and the increase in spending on eggs, dried fruit and cardboard, ACIP told Lusa.

“For 2026, ACIP’s perspectives [Associação do Comércio da Indústria de Panificação, Pastelaria e Similares] are cautiously optimistic. The stability in the international flour, energy and logistics markets creates favorable conditions for a year without major fluctuations”, said the president of the association’s board, Deborah Barbosain response to Lusa.

However, ACIP anticipates “a slight increase” in the price of bread and pastries, due to the impacts of labor reviews and increases in the prices of eggs, nuts and cardboard.

To this could also be added the impact of the possible withdrawal of State support for fuels, he warned.

According to data from Deco – Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection, sent to Lusa, on January 1, 2025, half a dozen eggs cost 1.61 euros, but on November 19 the same box was already priced at 2.12 euros, thus registering an increase of 31.68%.

The price of eggs has remained stable since October 22, when it reached a peak of 2.12 euros. In turn, the lowest value was reached at the beginning of the year (1.61 euros) and remained until the 29th of the same month.

According to ACIP, the sector should focus on “consolidation, production efficiency and strengthening differentiation”, factors that for ACIP are essential to achieve sustainable margins and meet customer expectations.

Deborah Barbosa also said that preliminary data for this year show an alignment of pastry and bakery prices with inflation, after years of strong volatility in costs and low consumption.

“The sector is showing moderate evolution, with contained but positive growth, supported by the normalization of raw material prices and more predictable consumer behavior. Although there are still many pressures in terms of labor and essential services, 2025 highlights an environment of greater operational balance”, he stated.
