2,066,001 passengers. This is TAP’s historic record and it was with Brazil that it achieved this milestone, celebrated in style: the “lucky” traveler won 150 thousand bonus miles when he landed in Manaus this week.
“This record on the Europe–Brazil route reflects passengers’ confidence in TAP and the importance of the Brazilian market. Celebrating this milestone in Manaus is symbolic, as the Lisbon–Manaus route reinforces our commitment to connectivity between the north of the country and Europe”said Carlos Antunes, TAP director for the Americas.
This route to the heart of the Amazon turned one year old last month, being described by the company as “an important milestone that reinforces TAP’s commitment to expanding connectivity between Brazil and Europe”.
Carlos Antunes held a meeting this week with the Brazilian Government, to discuss current and new routes between the countries. Antunes was in Brasília with Sílvio Costa Filho, Minister of Ports and Airports, and they talked about how “overcome logistical challenges and offer more flight options, reducing dependence on connections on the Rio-São Paulo axis”according to a statement from the ministry. According to Carlos Antunes, the plan for 2026 “envisages a close look at these regions”.
Next year, at least one new route between Brazil and Portugal has already been confirmed. In June, TAP will launch direct flights to Curitiba, capital of Paraná.
The first flight is scheduled for July 2, 2026. There will be three weekly flights, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, between the Portuguese capital and Afonso Pena International Airport. The operation will be carried out with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, with capacity for 269 passengers. Thus, all capitals in the south of the country will have direct routes from Lisbon.
